This is an overall picture of what you should expect when you take your driving test.

Drivers Theory And Praticial Test

The theory and hazard perception tests come first you will need to pass your theory and hazard perception test at the same time before you can take your practical test

Getting A Test Date

You will need a valid provisional driving licence to take your theory test. Once you have got that you can book your theory test (direct.gov.uk) or by phone on 0870-0101-372 - 0870-0101-370 by post or download a theory test application form Here

How The Theory Works

The theory test is a 50-question multiple choice test - To pass you must answer 43 questions or more correctly in 55 minutes - Questions are chosen at random from a bank of over a 1000 questions - You answer by touching the screen - During the test you have the options to skip questions and return to the later.

Remember - You'll need to study the highway code theory test book and cd rom

Then Comes The Pratical Test

In your practical test you have 40 minutes to demonstrate everything you have learned in your driving lessons.

You need to show that you can drive competently and safely in all kinds driving situations. You'll be asked to do two of the three reversing manoeuvres you practised with your instructor and may be an emergency stop. You'll be asked 2 vehicle safely questions which is the show me tell me questions - To pass you will have to complete the test with no serious faults or 15 or less minor faults

^*NOTE If You Fail Your Praticial Test and pass your theory you only need to sit your practical test next time

Be Prepared

The current National average for passing your practical test is 43 per cent so it makes sense to be as prepared as possible! Your instructor will advise you when you are ready for test and help you understand the main reason you fail
